To Larry Ducey Driving In His Weather

Our final Irish morning lowered temps

And somberly rained. Those days and days of sun

Had dazzled pasty locals. They’d shed their tops

And basked like gila monsters spread upon

The desert floor. But now, our luggage stuffed

And in your taxi’s trunk – Old Dirty Dublin,

Goodbye, we say! Adieu to Sweny’s: closed.

Adios to Davy Byrne’s: closed. The M-1

Is sparse this early, and heading north, you speak

Of recent snows and mizzle. You’ve come to love

That low and graying gloom. Your inner clock

Is winding down, you say, so stop and lave

It all of doom and rest beside your fire

With tea and smokes. O blessed, sodden Eire.
